Bio

Clarinettist and composer based in London

Raymond is a clarinettist based in London, studying at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he is a Guildhall scholar. He is currently under the tutelage of Robert Ault, Andrew Webster and Jennifer McLaren. At Guildhall he is a member of the Hornton Chamber Orchestra, Fantaisa Orchestra, Amadeus Orchestra amongst other external ensembles including Oxford Festival Orchestra.

Recently Raymond has won the Hatfield and District Music Festival woodwind and overall prizes, and will be performing Neilson clarinet concerto with DeHalliard Orchestra later next year. He regularly performs in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, and the Barbican, and as a soloist regularly plays at Wantage Music Festival, St. Annes College Oxford University and with the Guildhall New Music Society. Raymond previously studied clarinet at Royal College of Music Junior Department with Alex Allen.

Raymond also studies composition at GSMD with Paul Whitmarsh: recent premieres include ‘The World Is Too Much With Us’ for two bass clarinets and electronics and ‘Go Bathe In A Sound Bath’ for clarinet, speaker and white noise.

Additionally, he is a member of the London Symphony Chorus, regularly performing with the London Symphony Orchestra, which whom he made his BBC Proms debut the summer of 2017, and will be touring to Paris later this year.

Teaching

As well as a flourishing concert schedule, Raymond has a passion for teaching and is available for private lessons.

Raymond is an experienced teacher in both clarinet and piano and was awarded DipABRSM for performance in both piano and clarinet by the age of 17. He has experience in a age range of 4 to 80 and is continually willing to share his expertise in order to stimulate the next generation of music makers. He is a resident teacher at Questors Young Musicians Club for clarinet, bassoon, flute, piano and music theory.
